Salary Scale of Government Officials (Civil Servants) in Nepal 2083 2084 (2026)

Jobs in the government and public sector are among the most in-demand in Nepal. Every year, thousands of young people compete in a stringent examination process run by Lok Sewa Aayog (PSC-Public Service Commission) to secure government jobs.

The Public Service Commission conducts examinations for selection of candidates as per the Public Service Commission (Procedure) Act, 2066 B.S. using one or more methods of selection as follows: Open competitive written examination, Open competitive practical examination, Interview and, any other methods adopted by the Commission. This article provides comprehensive information on the salaries and benefits of government officials in Nepal at various levels.

Salary of Civil Servants/ Government officials/ Nijamati Karmachari of Nepal 2083-84 BS (2026-27 AD): 2 June 2026
The government of Nepal has announced an increase of nearly 21 percent in the salaries of civil servants. Of the total increase, 10 percent will be reflected in the basic pay scale, while an additional 10 percent will be provided as a monthly incentive allowance.

Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle, while presenting the budget for the upcoming fiscal year on 29 May 2026 AD (Jestha 15, 2083), said the overall salary adjustment would result in a combined rise of around 21 percent. According to the budget, basic salaries have been increased by 10 percent, while employees will also receive a 10 percent monthly performance-based incentive. The existing inflation allowance has been retained.

The government said the adjustment will raise minimum salaries to around Rs 40,000 and maximum pay to over Rs 100,000.The finance minister noted that civil servants had not received a salary revision for the past four years, during which inflation had risen by 17.3 percent. The new structure is intended to address inflationary pressure and improve morale in the public sector.

Salary of Civil Servants/ Government officials of Nepal 2081-82 (2024-25): 29 May 2024
On 15 Jestha 2081, the government approved a budget of Rs. 18 Kharba 60 Arba 30 Crores for fiscal year 2081/82, with Finance Minister Barshaman Pun in charge of the allocation process. The government has not increased employee salaries, allowances, or other benefits for the fiscal year 2081-82. During joint session of the Federal Parliament, Finance Minister Barshaman Pun did not mention any increases in employee salaries, allowances, or other benefits while presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2081–82.It is worth noting that there was no increase in employee salaries, allowances, or other benefits during the previous fiscal year.

The last time the government revised employee salary scales was FY 2079/80 when it presented the budget for fiscal year 2079-80. Finance Minister Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada presented the budget for fiscal year 2079/80 to parliament, increasing the salaries of government officials by 15%. The Council of Ministers approved a new salary scale and grade for all levels of civil servants, including the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Health Service, Parliament Service, and public school teachers, effective from 1 Shrawan 2079.  The increase in salary was made to boost civil servant morale and strengthen their professional integrity, resulting in better public service delivery.

Following the pay increase for government officials, the same salary scale that became effective in Shawan 2079 will be implemented in fiscal year 2081/82.
