Kathmandu: The Supreme Court regretted the loss of one academic year that a BSc third year student had to suffer due to error in the publication of results on the part of Tribhuvan University in 2010.

Publishing the full text on a writ filed by Amit Dhungana, the bench today drew the attention of Tribhuvan University on the need to conduct the examination and publish the result efficiently and on time so that no one would have to bear loss of academic year like Dhungana did, in future.

Dhungana, a resident of Myagdi, Jamuna Kharka, had moved the apex court demanding enrolment in one vacant seat of the student quota in MSc, saying that his BSc result had been delayed because of error on the part of TU, making him miss the entrance exam held on June 23, 2010.

The classes started two weeks later at TU Central Department of Chemistry. His appeal to allow him to appear for the entrance exam was denied by the department when he was awaiting his result due to error on the part of the university.

The bench had given the final verdict on the case on February 16.

According to its decision, he could not join classes, as eight months had already passed since classes began.

Besides, the petitioners’ claim that he had been taking theoretical classes at Tri Chandra Campus could not be taken into account as practical classes were mandatory and he had missed them.

Earlier, acting on a separate writ petition regarding his third year BSc result, the SC had issued mandamus to TU to re-check his examination copies and publish the result.

Dhungana had then secured 74 per cent marks after re-checking.

Dhungana was a student of Tri Chandra Campus.
