The United Kingdom (UK) has resumed its visa and passport service in Kathmandu from Monday, after a temporary visa application centre was opened at the British Embassy.

The new visa application centre at the British Embassy in Kathmandu is a temporary solution to the VFS application centre in Naxal, which suffered extensive damage from the earthquake, said a British Embassy statement.

“The visa application centre will be open Monday to Friday 9 -1pm and there will be no changes to the process in which customers apply for their visas and book their appointments,” said the embassy, adding that the customers will need to book their appointments in advance as walk-ins will not be accepted.

“I am pleased that we are able to resume our visa service in Nepal through this temporary facility at our Embassy. Our Visa Application Centre was badly damaged in the 25 April earthquake but we were determined to reintroduce a visa service for our customers here as soon as practicable, particularly in this bicentenary year of UK-Nepalese relations. Until a new permanent Visa Application Centre is up and running we will provide the best possible service,” British Ambassador to Nepal John Rankin said.
