Tribhuvan University today opened admission forms for master’s level in different faculties under the old annual system.Students can fill forms till February 10 and classes will begin from February 11, according to TU.But not many students today approached colleges to fill forms, largely due to ongoing winter vacation.

Rudra Poudel, Campus Chief, Ratna Rajya Campus, said that very few students came to the college to collect forms.Ram Hari Bhattarai, an official of the examination section of Ratna Rajya College, said 12 students collected admission forms from the college administration today. The college administration, however, remains opens even during winter vacation.

Admission notice : TU Masters level (MA, M.Ed and MBS) under Annual System

Admission under annual format was opened after TU decided to withdraw its earlier decision to implement the semester system in Valley campuses following pressure from student unions.

TU had even opened admission forms under semester system in December, aiming to start classes under the semester system from January. Protesting student unions then had halted form distribution, saying TU should not run classes under semester system now because ‘Valley campuses lacked proper infrastructure and resources’.

After various rounds of talks, TU then had decided to shelve its semester system plan and decided to open forms. Earlier, it had said it would open admission forms under the old annual system on January 23, but later again it fixed the date for opening forms as January 26.

Students can collect their admission forms by paying Rs 250. Admission fee is yet to be fixed, said Bhattarai.

He said that the students collected admission form by paying Rs 250 while the admission fee had not been finalised yet.

“Last year the admission fee for Master’s in English was Rs 8,400. As per an agreement reached with the students earlier, the college administration can increase the fee by 10 per cent every year. The accounts section and the administration will finalise fee structure soon,” he added.

Private Colleges affiliated to TU, however, are not happy with the decision to shelve the semester system plan. They say they are well-equipped to run master’s classes under the semester system. But with TU making it clear that classes will run under the old annual format, they are left with no option then to go by the TU decision. “We have no other option than to follow TU’s calendar,” said Rajendra KC, coordinator of Private College Association of Nepal.
