Jumla: Hundreds of students from three remote districts of Karnali zone were forced to travel to other districts to appear in the supplementary exams of grade 11 held on Saturday.

Altogether 12 Students from Dolpa and 15 students from Humla had fly to Surkhet to take the exams. They had to collect money for air fares to reach Surkhet.

However, not all students from Mugu could reach Jumla for the exams due to heavy snowfall. Of the total 111 students from Mugu, only 57 made it to Jumla.

Yam Raj Budha, who arrived in Jumla despite snowfall, had to walk continuously for two days to sit for the exam. He said other students failed to reach Jumla due to snowfall.

Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) has allowed students who failed in only one subject in the grade 11 exams to appear in the supplementary exams.

According to Dhanpati Bhetwal, regional chief of HSEB, the supplementary exam centers were not set up in Dolpa and Humla districts because there were only few students. “It is not practical to set up exam centers for few students,” he said.

“We did not set up an exam center in Mugu district as it was not possible for us to send question papers by air,” Bhetwal added.
