Office of the Dean, Faculty of Law of Tribhuvan University has reintroduced the quota system in Bachelor of Laws (LLB) first year, after receiving pressure from various teachers’ associations.

Nepal Progressive Teachers Association, Democratic Teachers Association, Tribhuvan University Teachers Association, Nepal Law Campus Unit Committee and Entrance Examination Committee for LLB pressed the Office for reintroduction of quota system.

Earlier, the Faculty of Law had decided to scrap the quota system in LLB programme and take new enrollment without entrance examination, in agreement with various students unions.


Dean of Faculty Prof Tara Prasad Sapkota, in a statement, said they scrapped the earlier agreement with the students unions and re-enforced the quota system under pressure from various teachers’ unions.

As per the quota system, 800 seats have been allocated for Nepal Law Campus in Kathmandu, and 150 for other colleges outside the valley.

Meanwhile, the All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU), Nepal Law Campus protested against the quota system. “Students will be deprived to pursue law degree due to the quota system,” said the ANNFSU Unit Committee Chairperson Hari Prasad Pangeni.
