Teachers Service Commission today said a total of 40,157 applicants have applied for 611 permanent positions that have been vacant since April 24, 2006, of secondary level teachers in 14 subjects, 65 times more than the available vacancies.

TSC spokesperson Sudarshan Marahattha said they had begun preparations to conduct recruitment tests to be held on June 18 in 208 centres in 10 districts.

A total of 11,343 applicants have applied for the position of a Nepali teacher, 10,304 for social studies, 9,185 for English, 2,536 for science, 4,110 for mathematics, 1,102 for accounts, 1,065 for health, population and environment, 325 for economics, 95 for education, 45 for computer science, 21 for Sanskrit literature, 19 for Sanskrit language, five for veda, and four for agriculture.

The test gives 20 per cent weight to general knowledge and 80 per cent weight to laws regarding education, secondary level curriculum, pedagogy, and so on.

Marahattha said differently-abled applicants would get 30 minutes extra time limit, or would be assigned a writer for their exam, as per their needs.

He added that applicants would have to write their name, symbol number, and other identification number clearly in the answer sheet, or they will not be evaluated. They also need to clearly mention if they are from an inclusive category.

Applicants are required to use black ink during the test.

While the tests for science, mathematics, and computer science subjects will be given in English, applicants may use either English or Nepali or both to answer questions.
