The Institute of Medicine under the Tribhuvan University today made public the fee ceiling set for Bachelors of Medicine and Bachelors of Surgery and Bachelors of Dental Science.

A public notice issued by IoM said fee ceiling for MBBS studies in the medical colleges within the Valley has been set at Rs 3.5 million while fee ceiling for the course outside the Valley has been fixed at Rs 3.85 million.

Similarly, fee ceiling for BDS studies within and outside the Kathmandu Valley has been set at Rs 1.75 million. The notice said 50 per cent of the total tuition fee should be paid in first installment during admission and 30 per cent in second installment in the third year. Likewise, the remaining 20 per cent should be paid in third installment in the fourth year.

Earlier, the MoE had directed universities and medical colleges to follow the fee ceiling set by the government and only enroll students on the merit list of respective institutes.

The ministry had earlier said medical colleges within the Kathmandu Valley could charge up to Rs 3.5 million for MBBS studies while the medical colleges outside the Kathmandu Valley would be allowed to charge some additional fee with permission from the faculty board of the respective university.

MoE had set a fee ceiling of Rs 2.3 million for MD studies.

Before leaving for Paris on November 2, Minister Pokharel had advised parents not to pay more than the fee ceiling set by the government while admitting their children to medical colleges.

“If students, parents and medical colleges follow the government directive, quality of education in the country in the coming days,” he added.
