The Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) has changed 19 centers for the grade 11 and 12 examinations in the Kathmandu valley as buildings of these test centres have received red stickers indicating that they are unsafe.

A meeting of the HSEB on Friday changed 11 centers in Kathmandu and eight in Lalitpur. Expert teams from the District Education Offices had given red stickers to all buildings of the 19 higher secondary schools and some buildings of other 14 schools. According to HSEB Vice-chairmam Chaitanya Sharma, these centers have been relocated to schools which are safe.

Sharma said that they have also holding examinations only on the ground and first floors of the exam centres keeping in mind the safety of examinees. The exam centres are also asked to manage makeshift halls if rooms are not sufficient on the two floors of their buildings, he said.

The grade 12 and 11 examinations, which were postponed due to the April 25 earthquake, are set to kick off on June 3 and 16 respectively in all districts except Rasuwa, Kavre, Sindhupalchok, Dhading, Nuwakot, Dolakha and Gorkha, which were hit hardest by the earthquake.

A total of 151,000 students from three quake-affected districts of Kathmandu Valley are sitting for HSEB examinations. The examinations in the seven hardest-hit districts will be conducted later.

Sharma said that mobile medical teams will be standby in all three districts in the Valley. "We are working sincerely to ensure safety of all our examinees. I urge them to attend the exam confidently," he said.

The HSEB is also organising counseling and trainings for exam superintendents and invigilators on Saturday so that they can deal with examinees properly.
