Kathmandu: A delegation from the Guardians Association of Nepal today urged the Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) to determine the fee structure for higher secondary schools and provide scholarships to private school students. “Determination of fee structure is a must as private Plus Two colleges are cheating guardians by charging exorbitant fees,” said Suprabhat Bhandari, the GAN president, after the delegation met Vice Chairman Dr Hem Kumar Mishra to draw the latter’s attention towards the fee and scholarship issues.

“The students, who studied in private schools with 10 per cent scholarships, should be allowed to appear in HSEB scholarship exams,” Bhandari said in reference to the government’s recent decision to provide five per cent scholarship to the students of community schools only. Nawaraj Poudel, vice president of the All Nepal National Free Students Union, said they will launch a stern protest against HSEB for not inviting them for talks.

ANNFSU had submitted a letter of memorandum to HSEB on Sunday, demanding 10 per cent scholarship for SLC graduates — five per cent for students from private schools and the rest for those from public schools.

“The exam is scheduled for July 23, but HSEB has not initiated talks,” he said. However, Yuba Raj Sharma, general secretary, Higher Secondary Schools Association of Nepal, has ruled out the possibility of the 10 per cent freeship.
