GEMS Youth fest

GEMS Institute of Higher Education (GHIE) Student Council successfully organized an exciting youth fest hosted by Graded English Medium School (GEMS) on Saturday, February 11.

“50 percent of the total fund collected today will be donated to Pourakhi Nepal, an NGO that works to rescue and safeguard the rights of migrant women workers from several countries since past eight years,” informed Pranesh Gurung, event coordinator.

It was indeed thrilling to see young and smart looking students whose appearance reminded of the secret detectives in Hollywood flicks, smoothly coordinating over walkie-talkies and managing as well as entertaining a crowd of about 2,500 students from various schools and colleges.

Rajendra Kumar Ghising, CEO of GEMS, informed, “Rest of the fund will be kept aside for future charity events that the students might come up with.

” The administrator of GEMS, Sameer Bomdzon, added, “I’m very happy and excited to see our students sincerely pulling off such a large event with a huge mass.”

Similarly, A-level coordinator, Rajni Mukhia said, “Our students look motivated and I’m proud that it is their initiation. It is encouraging to us as well. Along with entertainment they are contributing for a good social cause.”

The students had put up 20 unique stalls of games, accessories and food items such as hit the can, shoot and win, street soccer, fish the bubble, angry birds, foos ball, face painting, bubble tea, candy floss, and horse riding at reasonable rates.

Bishwas Pokrel, a visitor at the festival, said, “The event organization is quite appreciable. To be able to organize a huge event like this at a young age is amazing. Also, the stalls are very unique compared to other fairs.”

Dalle Momo caught many people’s eye as it had an interesting momo machine that made 600 momos at a time.

Youngster’s crowded thePani Puri stalls while the candy floss stall offered cotton candies and flowers.

“We have also included our A-level coordinator, Rajni Mukhia madam’s favorite flowers as it is her birthday today,” said a cheerfully informed Rohan Pandey, stall coordinator.

Several bands from GEMS namely, ‘Justice Denied’, ‘Meth’ and ‘Synesthesia’ initiated the concert. It was followed by exciting performances by well-known bands such as Nepsydaz, Mt 8848 and Adrian Pradhan of 1974 AD with the band Victory. The crowd swayed and groups head-banged to the rocking performances.

Urusha Koirala, another visitor, said, “We are fully enjoying the concert, we don’t want to miss the performances and therefore we didn’t visit the stalls.”

The total fund collected from 2,500 people as entry charge was Rs 3,75,000 while the stalls yielded a profit of Rs 50,000,” informed, Rohan Pandey, event coordinator.
