Educationists have said that teaching foreign curricula at schools will not promote national interest in the long run and they stressed the need of education which can address the socio-cultural needs of the country and can strengthen social and national integrity.

According to Mana Prasad Wagle, an educationist, the government is not doing anything to promote Nepali curriculum as a result schools with foreign curricula are mushrooming in the country. He said, “Teaching foreign curriculum at schools should be made illegal as it does not serve national interest.”

Spokesperson at Ministry of Education Hari Lamsal said of the total students in the country, 0.33 per cent students were studying at schools that teach foreign curriculum.

“The government has been working to improve education quality. Curriculum does not make any difference either it be Nepali or foreign, we need to focus on outcome,” he said.

Krishna Prasad Kapri, the executive director of Curriculum Development Centre said there was a kind of belief among the parents enrolling their wards at schools with foreign curriculum would make their children more competent and open more job opportunities for them.

“Government should allocate more budget for education and should not give the schools permission to teach foreign curriculum,” said advocate Tikaram Bhattrai.
