A three-member committee formed under the coordination of Khagaraj Baral, director feneral of the Department of Education, has decided to permit 60 new higher secondary schools to run plus two level classes from the new academic session.

The previous Higher Secondary Education Board was scrapped after enactment of Education (Eighth Amendment Act -2016) and National Examination Board was established to look into the examination process of the secondary level.

Earlier, Affiliation Division in the previous HSEB used to grant affiliation to higher secondary schools or plus two colleges. However after HSEB was scrapped, the Ministry of Education formed a three-member committee under Baral’s coordination.

Other members of the committee include Baikuntha Prasad Arya, director of Educational Management Division at the Department of Education and chief of Affiliation Division of the erstwhile HSEB.

Baral informed that a total of 114 schools had lodged applications for running classes in Grade XI while only 60 higher secondary schools were given permission to start classes from this academic session in the first phase.

While HSEB was in existence it had publicised an academic calendar for Grade XI, which stated that classes of Grade XI would begin from July 31.

Baral said, “Essential documents of 13 higher secondary schools were missing so if the schools submitted their documents on time, they would also get permission to run classes of Grade XI from this academic session.” He added, “Except these schools, some schools have not paid for the affiliation and it will take time to complete all the procedures.”

Currently, there are a total of 3,700 plus two colleges/higher secondary schools, as many as 2,600 community plus two colleges/HSS and 1,100 private plus two colleges in the country.
