Chaudhary Group (CG) launched its Growing Service Leaders (GSL) -- a corporate social responsibility initiative here today.

"The main purpose of embracing the concept of service learning, which in simpler terms is a teaching technique that fuses education with service towards the community is to provide meaningful experiences that can transform the nation’s youth into leaders, and their experiences to help develop a better understanding of themselves, their local and global community as well as their roles and responsibility," said head of CSR for Chaudhary Group Sarah Giri.

Twenty students from ten different schools will be trained and sent out on the field as a part of the project to give back to the community what they have learnt in a ten-month period.

"Anuvuti -- as an implementing partner -- will bring in the needed expertise in the field of service learning," she sid, adding that the project aims at delivering service learning to 200 students chosen from various government schools. The 10-month programme includes classroom learning as well as implementation of service projects in order to apply what the students learn to solve real-world problems and actively contribute to their community," according to Giri.

CGs looks to not only to connect students and community but also to involve educational institutes in the process to create a platform of active education for the youth while simultaneously addressing the concerns,needs, and hopes of communities.

"We at CG have continuously strived to focus our CSR on education and are looking to bring in many more CSR related projects in the future, in the next five years we aim to have 100 schools participating in this endeavour as the future lies in the hands of the youth," said MD of Chaudhary Group Nirvana Chaudhary.

CG GSL is also supporting a project by Kathmandu College of Management (KCM) called KASAM which has been initiated by students of KCM aims at constructing sustainable double pit borehole latrines.
