All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) today announced educational strike for two days next week against the trend of giving foreign names to Plus-Two colleges and exorbitant fee structures.

At a press meet here today, Sarad Rasaili of ANNISU-R said the strike was scheduled for July 22 and 23 to put pressure on the government to remove all kinds of ill practices in the education sector, especially in Plus-Two level education.

He said, “We are going to interact with proprietors of private academic institutions, remove hoarding boards and urge them to change the names for three days from today,” adding, “Then we will resort to education strike nationwide.”

He said there were many irregularities in the education sector, so they had drawn the attention of the Ministry of Education through a five-point demand to the ministry on May 8.

Likewise they had submitted 24-hour ultimatum to Higher Secondary Education Board with seven point demand to the office on July 13.

“When HSEB failed to meet the demand, we started to protest,” he said.

Earlier, this week ANNISU-R cadres burnt the hoarding boards of a few Plus-two colleges stating that such hoarding boards were unnecessary investment in advertisement. Likewise, they also vandalised computers of a few Plus-two colleges and burnt a school bus belonging to Rato Bangala School during their campaign.

Rasaili clarified that it was only a rumour that they were vandalising Plus-two colleges because they were not given donation. “Some people trying to spoil our organisation’s prestige had made such allegations. We are not carrying out a donation drive at the moment,” he added.

He also warned the concerned of stern action in future if their demands were not met by next Monday.
