Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has urged the academic institutions to internalise the basic norms of inclusion and federalism.

In a message sent to the 29th Academy Council meeting of Nepal Academy here today, Prime Minister Koirala said as the government is working to institutionalise the historical achievements like federalism, democracy and inclusion, the academic institutions should also follow suit.

Prime Minister Koirala is the chief patron of the Academy. His written message was read out the programme by Chancellor of the Academy Ganga Prasad Upreti.

In the message, the Prime Minister has also expressed the confidence that the Council would come up with an action plan to preserve and promote all languages, literature and cultures in the country, while pointing out the important role of the Academy in promoting unity in diversity in the country.

Earlier, inaugurating the Council meet, Outgoing Chancellor Bairagi Kainla emphasised on promoting Nepali thought and principles at a time when the country was in the steep and narrow path of social transformation.

The Council meets every year to formulate new action plan, policies and budget for the coming year.

This is the first council meet after Ganga Prasad Upreti was appointed the Chancellor of the Academy.

At the meeting today, Chancellor Upreti also administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly appointed members of the Council.
