Kathmandu: The Ministry of Education (MoE) has received 46 applications from colleges across the country to start GCE A Level course in the coming academic session.

The MoE had stopped the registration for the past few years citing exorbitant fee structure, less number of students and lack of infrastructure to run the course.

“Two applicants, out of 46, are from Chitwan, one each from Mahendranagar, Butwal, Kavre and the rest from the Kathmandu Valley,” Laxman Khanal, under secretary at ministry, said.

Currently, around 2,000 students are studying in 34 colleges — 29 in the Valley and five outside the Valley — running A Level.

“Pentagon, NASA, Brookfield, Whitefield, Pathshala and Ambition are among applicants in the Valley,” said Khanal.

“Only after the applicants fulfil the criteria set by the ministry, the Letter of Intent will be forwarded to British Council,” said Khanal.

Either three ropanis land or the proof of having the right to use the land for 15 years, a separate building for A Level students and minimum 24 students in one class are among the criteria set by the ministry.
