Tribhuvan University (TU) conducted its 39th convocation at the Tripureshworbased Dasharath Stadium on Friday. A total of 6,722 students from various faculties, including humanities and social sciences, education, science and technology and forestry, participated in the ceremony. According to the university, students who passed Bachelors, Masters, M Phil and PhD level examinations and received transcripts from 9 June 2012 to 14 June 2013 participated in the convocation ceremony.

On the occasion, Interim Election Government Chairman Khil Raj Regmi, who is the ex officio chancellor of the university, conferred the degrees on PhD graduates. This year, 51 students, including 34 from humanities, seven from science and technology, one from law, two from education and seven from management streams have received the PhD degree. Addressing the function, Regmi urged the new graduates to devote their knowledge for the country. “The nation has huge expectations from you, and now you are capable to fulfil it. Utilise your knowledge for nation building,” he said, “It’s my special request on this occasion.” Saying that human resources produced by the university have made significant contribution to major sectors both inside and outside the nation, he said education is the major tool for progressive change and timely transformation of the society.

On a different note, he said that nation has entered into new phase with fair, free and successful conduction of Constituent Assembly (CA) election with maximum participation of people. “Students like you played significant role in making the polls a success. I would like to thank you all for that,” he said. Education Minister Madhav Prasad Poudel and TU Vice-Chancellor Hira Bahadur Maharjan also attended the programme. Interim Election Government Chairman Khil Raj Regmi says the university graduates have made significant contribution to major sectors in the nation.
