The Higher Secondary Education Board has decided to give a second chance to Plus Two level examinees, who were affected by the earthquake, to sit for the board exam.The board exam of Plus Two level was postponed after the massive earthquake hit the country on April 25.

The board exam for Grade XII is set to begin from June and for Grade XI from June 16. HSEB, however, has drawn flak from several quarters for rescheduling the exam in a hurry, who have said many students are still not mentally prepared for the exam. Earlier, the exam of Grade XII was scheduled to begin from May 3 and Grade XI from May 14. Santosh Aryal, Acting Examination Controller, said, “Since some students, who are not mentally prepared, can remain absent in this exam and attend in the second phase.”HSEB is conducting the board exam in two phases. Exam in 68 districts will be held from June 3 and June 16 in the first phase while it will be conducted in seven districts worst-hit by the earthquake in the second phase. The routine for the exam in these seven districts will be publicised 15 days before the exam date.

According to Aryal, students who are receiving medical treatment in hospitals, who have developed some sort of mental illness and are in trauma and those who have multiple injuries, including physical disabilities, will be considered eligible to sit for the board exam in the second phase.“Students should file an application with the recommendations from school principal and medical doctor if they want to skip this exam and attend it in the next phase,” he said.Aryal said that altogether 673,614 examinees from 68 districts are appearing in Grade XI and Grade XII board exam in the first phase while there will be 46,719 examinees from seven districts in the second phase.
