Tribhuvan University Executive Council today endorsed allocation of MBBS seats to medical colleges for the upcoming academic year. This has paved the way for students to get enrolment in medical colleges.

TUEC has endorsed allocation of 90 seats each to KIST Medical College, Lalitpur; Chitwan Medical College, Chitwan; Gandaki Medical College, Pokhara; and National Medical College, Birjung, for this year.

It has endorsed allocation of 100 seats each to Universal College of Medical Sciences, Bhairahawa and Nepal Army Academy of Health Sciences, Kathmandu. Janakpur-based Janaki Medical College has been allocated 80 seats. Similarly, it has endorsed allocation of 76 seats to Maharajgunj Medical Campus in Kathmandu.

Institute of Medicine had sent a list of medical colleges along with the seats allocated to them to TUEC for endorsement. TUEC  has to endorse allocation of seats before the IoM starts  counselling for students who pass the entrance examination.


“We weren’t satisfied with the allocation of seats by IoM. However, we endorsed the list as we didn’t want to create any hassle. However, we will investigate the allocation of seats by IoM,” said Dr Tirtha Raj Khaniya, vice-chancellor of TU.

IoM had published the result for MBBS entrance re-examination on December 4. A total of 3,331 students, including Nepali and foreign nationals, had passed the examination. Admission of successful candidates, including foreign students, will be made on the basis of merit. IoM had issued a public notice asking students to register for open-house counselling. IoM had conducted entrance re-examination amid tight security on December 2.  On November 19, IoM had cancelled the MBBS entrance test that was conducted on October 14 after its Examination Control Division endorsed TUEC’s directives.

TUEC had sent a letter to the IoM on November 16 concluding that the question papers for MBBS entrance exam on October 14 had been leaked.
