Biratnagar:The 16 agitating parties, professors and staff at Purbanchal University on Monday shut the varsity demanding the resignation of its office bearers. Regular classes at PU’s constituent campuses and administrative work at the university — came to a grinding halt. UML Morang district Chairman Mahesh Regmi said the parties, teachers and staff had decided to call a district bandh till 10:00 am tomorrow. Market places, transport service and educational institutions will remain closed.

The 16 parties, professors’ union, staff, and student unions have been agitating demanding action against five office bearers at the varsity for financial irregularities.The protesters have demanded resignation of Vice-chancellor Mahesworman Shrestha, Registrar Niroj Pandey, Dean Shyam Katuwal, Acting Dean Shuvnarayan Pathak and Acting Registrar Shambhu Koirala.
