Course Description:
The Bachelor in Development Finance (BDFin) from Kathmandu University is a four-year, 126-credit undergraduate program designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to address financial challenges within broader economic and social development agendas.
Reflecting a forward-looking approach to global trends, the program incorporates emerging topics including Blockchain for Development, AI and Data Science, and Climate Finance- preparing graduates to navigate innovation, risk, and regulation in rapidly evolving financial ecosystems. Emphasis is also placed on Nepal-specific contexts and policy environments through courses such as Nepali Language, Nepal’s Economic Development and Policy, and localized development finance applications. This local grounding helps students connect theory to practice, assess financial inclusion strategies, and understand how public policy, institutions, and markets interact to shape development outcomes.
Learning is reinforced through case studies, data-driven analysis, and applied projects that encourage evidence-based decision-making and ethical practice. Graduates are prepared for roles in development banks and financial institutions, microfinance organizations, impact investment firms, NGOs and INGOs, and public-sector agencies, as well as for further study in finance, economics, public policy, or international development. By combining analytical rigor with practical relevance and local applicability, BDFin positions students to contribute to sustainable economic transformation in Nepal and across global development contexts.
