Over 5 lakhs to appear in SLC exams

The Office of the Controller of Examinations has completed all preparations for this years SLC examinations slated to be held from March 13 to 23. Total 5,47,165 students are expected to appear in the exam, out of which 4,30,097 are said to be regulars and 1,17,068 exempted.

The office has set up 1,786 exam centers across the country that will be supervised by an equal number of superintendents and 2,655 assistant superintendents.

Similarly, 21,890 invigilators, 7,297 peons and 19,860 security personnel would be deployed to conduct the exams successfully, said Examinations Controller Khaga Raj Baral, speaking at a press conference on Wednesday.

“So far, the question papers have reached 69 of the 75 district police offices across the country,” Baral said. “The remaining six districts, including the three inside the Kathmandu Valley, will receive the question papers in a few days.

"While Kathmandu district has the highest 86 exam centers, Manang and Mustang districts have one center each. This year, the number of students appearing in the exams would exceed by 18,908 to the last year?s 528,257.

However, the number might decline slightly after the office receives final report from all the district administration offices across the country.

Meanwhile, the officials have said accessing individual answer-sheets would be easier this year. According to the Deputy Exam Controller Ganesh Dhakal, students can ask for their answer-sheets by submitting an application and their original admit card within 35 days of the announcement of the SLC result.

"The process has been simplified mainly to benefit the students from far-flung areas who had to suffer due to long process in the past," said Dhakal.
Similarly, the office has reduced the fees for accessing ones answer sheets from Rs 1000 to Rs 700 for each subject.

To check the irregularities during the examinations, the government has been acting tougher since the last few years.

Students, teachers, guardians or anybody found violating the exam rules would face up to six months jail term or Rs 100,000 fine or both as per the nature of their offense. Likewise, the students involved in flouting discipline during the examinations would be disqualified for a year.
