Nepal government has started providing training to teachers of institutional schools for the first time. Earlier, the government used to provide training only to teachers of community schools. National Centre for Educational Development (NCED) under the Ministry of Education is providing the five-day training.

Surya Gautam, director, NCED said they started providing ‘Teaching training based on curriculum’ to 35 teachers of Kavya School in Kathmandu from yesterday. He said, “All the teachers including the school principal are participating in the training.”

He assured that the government was ever ready to provide training to schools that demand it.

The government has been providing teacher training to community school teachers free of cost while private schools have to pay certain amount to the government for the training. Almost all permanent teachers in government schools have received training from NCED.

“The training will benefit both teachers and students,” Gautam said, adding, that teachers become familiar with teaching methodology, ways to make classrooms child-friendly, students’ evaluation process and others.

Education experts believe that despite the training, the result in community schools is not satisfactory but the same training given to private school teachers has enhanced the quality of education and made the teaching-learning process interesting and effective.
