Dharan: The BP Koirala Institute of Health Science (BPKIHS), Dharan has decided to investigate documents submitted by all those students who applied to study medical sciences under reserved quotas meant for the candidates from remote districts.

The Examinations Committee of the BPKIHS took this decision on Wednesday after the certificates of one student who passed the entrance exams for the MBBS course under the quota were found to be faked.

Bibek Shah, who claimed to have passed 8th, 9th and 10th grades from a public school in Mugu district, was found to have forged somebody else´ class 8 certificates. Shah´s name has been removed from the list of those passing the entrance exam.

“After finding fake certificates of one candidate, we´ve decided to thoroughly examine the certificates of all those who have so far got MBBS, BDS and BN seats exclusively reserved for students from remote districts,” said Shyam Lamsal, member of the committee, who is also a joint spokesperson for the BPKIHS.

As it is not the appropriate authority to investigate fake documents, the BPKIHS will forward the certificates submitted by the students who have secured the remote quota seats to the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the concerned District Education Offices, according to Lamsal.

“We´ll take necessary actions against anybody found using forged certificates,” Lamsal said.

The BPKIHS has reserved four MBBS seats and two BDS seats for students from districts listed as remote. Bajhang, Bajura, Darchula, Dolpa, Humla, Jajarkot, Jumla, Kalikot, Manag, Mustang, Rukum and Solukhumbu figure as remote districts in the hospital´s list.

Only the students who have completed their 8-10 grades from public schools in remote districts qualify for these reserved quotas. If a student is found to have completed any one of these grades from a district deemed as accessible, he or she is not considered for the reserved quotas.

There have been accusations recently that the BPKIHS had provided the seats reserved for the candidates from remote districts to students from private schools in urban areas by simply turning a blind eye to forged documents.
