The University Grants Commission (UGC) was established as an autonomous and statutory institution under the University Grants Commission Act (1993) to promote, facilitate, support, and enhance the quality of higher education in Nepal, allowing educational institutions to meet the country's need for educated workers. The UGC was established as one of the consequences of the political upheavals in the early 1990s to fulfill the people's expectations for revolutionary and qualitative improvements in higher education to aid the nation's overall growth.

The University Grants Commission (UGC), Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, has issued an important notice to students who wish to apply for higher education scholarships.

Eligibility Criteria:
The scholarship is intended to help students who are disabled, economically disadvantaged, or the descendants of Dalits, martyrs, conflict victims, freedmen, and Muslim women.  To be eligible, students must be in the first year of an undergraduate or postgraduate program during the fiscal year 2081/082.
