TU to resume suspended exams from mid-July

June 24: As cases of COVID-19 decrease and prohibitory orders eased across the country, Tribhuvan University has decided to resume all the suspended undergraduate and graduate examinations from July 20.

According to examinations controller Pushpa Raj Joshi, a meeting of the examination board held on Wednesday decided to conduct the suspended examinations of second-year undergraduate programs from July 20. He said that the board has decided to complete the second year examinations by July 24 and start the first-year undergraduate exams from July 25 and finish all the examinations by August 12.

“The examination of over 400,000 students from the first-year undergraduates to graduate-level will start from July 20,” Joshi said. “The examinations of postgraduate level have been decided to start from the mid of August, while also allowing students to choose an examination center,” he added. “The examination board has decided to publish the schedules on Thursday and publish the information regarding the selection of the examination center by Sunday,” Joshi said.

Joshi said that as many as 240 centers were fixed for examination purposes last year. However, the number of examination centers has been increased to 300 centers across the country for about 400,000 students this year. “The board has decided to conduct exams at one shift a day in the morning, as well as set a distance of 13-km for students to reach the exam centers due to the risk of COVID-19,” Joshi said.

As many as three examination centers have been designated in Birgunj, Janakpur, and Siraha district, respectively, for the first time with a goal to provide proper examination management and easy access to attend the examination for students.

According to Controller Joshi, the examinations for about 100,000 students from the semester system will be held in the last week of July as well. “The fourth-year examination of undergraduate-level will start after the Dashain,” he said. “As many as 80 examination centers have been selected in the Kathmandu valley alone. The number of examination centers has been increased to two in the Himalayan districts as well,” Joshi added.

According to Deputy Controller Dr. Ghanshyam Thakur, the first-year exams of undergraduate students have been suspended for 22 months due to the spread of COVID-19. “The board has decided to conduct the first-year examination of students from the current and the previous year from July 20,” Thakur said. “The examinations will take place in the form of physical presence as it is not possible to conduct the examinations of 400,000 students online. Students face certain difficulties even while filling out the exam form online,” he added.

Thakur said there is no other alternative to physical presence in such a situation. He said that the examination centers have been instructed to fully comply with the standards of health security as well. “Face masks, sanitizers, and physical distance are mandatory in all the designated centers for the convenience of students,” Thakur added.
