Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) is a 4-year (semester-based) course run by Tribhuvan University (TU)’s Institute of Science and Technology (IOST). The Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) course offered by Tribhuvan University aims to equip students with theoretical concepts and practical data processing training to prepare them to work in the fields of cybernetics and computer-aided testing service.
In addition to the foundation and core Information Technology courses, the BIT program includes many optional courses to fulfill the undergraduate academic program requirement as well as the demand for new technology development and implementation. Students in the four-year BIT program must complete foundation and core courses in information technology, as well as courses in mathematics, statistics, management, economics, sociology, psychology, research methodology, technical writing, and certain electives.
The main objective of Bachelor in Information Technology (BIT) program of Tribhuvan University is to provide students intensive knowledge and skill to design. develop, and use information technology in different areas. It is envisaged that graduate of this program will be equipped with necessary knowledge of Information Technology to compete in this global world.
Eligibility to study BIT-Tribhuvan University
- Passed Proficiency Certificate Level or Equivalent Examination from any faculty taking subjects like English and Mathematics or Computer (Students should have studied at least a Mathematics or English) subject with 100 pass marks and secured at least second division.
- Passed grade 12 from Higher Secondary or Secondary School in any stream, but must have studied English and Mathematics or Computer Subject of 100/100 marks; students must have taken English, Mathematics or Computer (Must have studied at least Mathematics or Computer subject) and secured at least a C grade. For other subjects, he/she should have passed, securing at least a Grade Point (GPA 1.6) and a final CGPA of at least 1.8.
- Passed A-level examination (studying English and Mathematics or Computer subject of 100/100 marks), securing a D Grade with or without a small letter.
- Passed Three Years Diploma in second division from CTEVT by studying English and Mathematics or Computer with 100/100 marks each.
BIT Entrance Examination
Bachelor in Information Technology (BIT) entrance examination is administered by the Institute of Science and Technology at Tribhuvan University. The BIT entrance examination is mandatory for individuals aspiring to pursue BIT at Tribhuvan University or its associated (constituent and affiliated) colleges.
The entrance examination comprises 100 marks and draws questions from the Grade 11 and 12 curriculum or its equivalent. English subjects contribute to 50 marks, while the remaining 50 marks are allocated to either Mathematics or Computer (students can choose between Mathematics and Computer).
The entrance exam consists of entirely of multiple-choice questions, and applicants must achieve a minimum score of 35% to pass the BIT entrance exam.
To get admission to study Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) program of Tribhuvan University, students should pass BIT entrance examination conducted by TU IOST.

The entrance examination questions are asked from the following subjects of grade 11-12 or equivalent. Questions of 50 marks will be asked for English subjects and 50 marks of either Mathematics or Computer (Students can choose either Mathematics and Computer)
