Course Description:

This course is offered with the objective of imparting knowledge & skill to the students for addressing emerging multi-sectoral & multi-disciplinary challenges of water management. The course while adapting an interdisciplinary approach attempts to integrate the social & natural science components of water resource management.

 

The course on Interdisciplinary Water Resources Management, leading to Master Degree, aims at producing professionals with interdisciplinary skills and capacity to respond to emerging challenges in water resources management. The course is intended to produce graduates with theoretical and analytical skills, capable of undertaking wide ranging planning and management functions relating to water.

 

Upon completion of the course, the graduates are expected to be able to:

  • Pursue interdisciplinary approach in managing water systems,
  • Assess the water resources endowment as linked to upstream and downstream hydrology, ecology, pollution, consumptive and nonconsumptive uses and water induced disasters,
  • Undertake key role in planning, development and management of water resources for sustaining national, regional and local economy and well being of the people
  • Respond to the water conflicts within wider contexts of socioeconomic and environmental challenges, locally, nationally and internationally
  • Recognize the importance of political processes as an important element in decision making pertaining to acquisition, allocation and utilization of water resources.

 

Admission info

Students who have completed Bachelor Degree, with a minimum of 15 years of education, in Science and Technology (Engineering, Basic Sciences, Applied and Natural Sciences) from recognized university/institutions are eligible to apply for the course. The selection of the candidates shall be based on past academic achievements, experience in relevant field, entrance test and interview.

Integration Courses: These courses integrate the physical and natural sciences with the social elements and intend to impart needed knowledge and skills in comprehending the linkages with social, political and economic environments in choosing technology and management options in water resources management. Thesis work: Research is a key element in building capacity of students, especially in an area of interdisciplinary water resources management. Thesis work as partial fulfillment of Master's Degree, as prescribed by the University, will focus on field oriented problem based research. Thus, this course will direct students to conduct field oriented problem based research to give practical exposure on IWRM.
