Out of 4,924 secondary schools nationwide that provide classed for grades 11 and 12, the 30 Best Secondary School (+2 Colleges) were chosen.

The following criteria were used to select the Top 30 Secondary Schools (+2 Colleges) for the year 2083 BS:
1. At first, the top 30 Secondary Schools were selected based on academic results from 76 Secondary Schools which had 480 students participated in the board's annual exams for last three years
2. These 30 secondary schools were competed and ranked based on various parameters.These parameters were physical infrastructure, people's perception towards the school, extracurricular activities, No. of the Best Secondary School award received, and the year Plus Two teaching was introduced in the school.
3. The final top secondary schools were selected based from the total marks, one from marking the result (pass percentage) at 80 percent and all other various parameters at 20 percent (4/4 each).

For twenty-one years, Prasadi Academy Secondary School, situated in Manbhavan, Lalitpur, has maintained its top spot on the list of the top secondary schools. St. Xavier's College,Kathmandu Model Secondary School, Global College of Management, Reliance International Academy and Pinnacle Academy have been placed second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, according to the rankings.
