Course Description:
General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A-Levels) is a globally recognized qualification for secondary-level education offered by Cambridge International Education (CIE) in more than 160 countries. CIE is the world's leading provider of international education for 3 to 19-year-olds and part of the University of Cambridge.
GCE 'A' Level is one of the most sought-after courses in the world due to its stream flexibility, gold standard academic curriculum, and global recognition. This acts as a reliable credential for students who want to study overseas, whether in the USA, UK, Canada or Australia. A-levels prepare students to meet the international learning standards. In Nepal, 'A' Level is equivalent to Secondary (10+2) / two-year Intermediate level studies or PCL/Diploma Level.
The A Levels programme demands a multi-dimensional approach, which includes providing evidence of in-depth subject knowledge and understanding; developing an ability to think logically; presenting reasoned explanations; applying theoretical knowledge; and communicating ideas and feelings in a clear and logical manner.
A-levels can help acquire skills such as:
- Analytical Thinking
- Critical Thinking
- Knowledge Management
- Persuasion and Developing an Argument
- Case Study Development
- Research Skills
- Drawing Conclusions
Studying for the A Levels qualification is rigorous and demands a high academic standard of achievement.
Course Duration
Students usually complete A-levels in two years. In the first year, you study the first half of the A-level, which is called the AS-level. In the second year, you study the A2-level. Your combined result from both years is your A-level grade. A-levels are assessed by a mixture of practical coursework and exams in both years (AS and A2).
Examination
CIE (Cambridge International Examination) conducts the A Level exam twice a year (after every six months) i.e. May / June session and October / November session.
Admission info
Eligibility
Students should have passed the SEE/GCSE/CBSE or an equivalent examination at the time of admission.
The admission test that is conducted by the College comprises the intelligence quotient, subject test, and an essay writing test. After the entrance examination, colleges may take an interview before publishing the final merit list of the students for enrollment.
Syllabus
The course is offered into two streams: GCE A level Science and GCE A level Non-Science.
The course offers various subject combinations to fulfill requirements and to prepare students for further university studies including science, medical, engineering, business and liberal arts. There are no fixed combinations of subjects in the GCE A-Level. Nonetheless, entry to some institutions requires a particular combination of subjects. Generally, a minimum of three A-Level subjects is required. The general admissions requirement for universities in the UK rests on an applicant taking three A Levels. Students typically study 3 to 4 subjects based on their career aspirations and university requirements. Some competent students may elect to do four subjects, or even more.
