Course Description:
The Bachelor's of Science in Horticulture and Floriculture Management (B. Sc. in HFM) is a four year Program, of Tribhuvan University which aims to to offer students the opportunity to prepare themselves for a wide variety of careers, entrepreneurship, exploratory enterprises or continue education in the related field by developing both their technical and interpersonal skills. This program is introduced with the conviction that it will contribute by large to the development and promotion of the economy of Nepal and the adjoining regions. In addition, this program focuses on the assess, effectiveness and efficiency of management practices in the related field.
Objectives of BSc Horticulture and Floriculture Management course:
The objectives of the Bachelor of Horticulture and Floriculture Management degree program are as follows:
- Understanding the Importance of Floriculture: The program aims to educate students about the significance of floriculture and its contribution to the economy, with a specific focus on vegetable, fruit crops, and ornamental plants. Students will gain an understanding of the economic potential and value of floriculture in various sectors.
- Enhancing Horticulture Production and Market: The program seeks to provide students with knowledge and skills to improve and enhance horticulture production and its market. Students will learn about advanced techniques, technologies, and practices to maximize the productivity and quality of horticultural crops. They will also gain insights into market trends, marketing strategies, and consumer demands in the horticulture industry.
- Creating Awareness about Ornamental Plants: The program aims to generate awareness among individuals and communities about the artistic and economic value of ornamental plants. Students will be equipped with the knowledge to appreciate the aesthetic aspects of ornamental plants and their contribution to the overall environment and well-being.
- Entrepreneurship and Scientific Research: The program intends to foster an entrepreneurial mindset among students and encourage them to establish their own horticulture and floriculture enterprises. Eligibility
The candidates who have passed in second division I.Sc. Or 10+2 (science) and certificate level of Forestry, ie. I.Sc forestry, I.Sc agriculture from Tribhuvan University or an institute recognized by this university shall be considered eligible to apply for admission to B.Sc in Horticulture and Floriculture Management. Students are selected based on their merit in the entrance examination.
Syllabus
The curriculum is spread over duration of 4 years comprising 8 semesters, 155 credits, 50 courses carrying a total weightage of 3100 marks. One credit in theory equals to 15 teaching hours, doubled by the practical. The first six semesters comprise seven courses each; the seventh six courses and the eighth one course.
