Course Description:
The Bachelor of Education in Basic and Early Education (B.Ed. BEE) of Kathmandu University is a four-year, 138-credit undergraduate program preparing competent, culturally responsive teachers for children from Early Childhood Development (ECD) through Grade 8. It equips future educators with pedagogical expertise, child development knowledge, and 21st-century teaching competencies for Nepal's classrooms.
While most B.Ed. programs in Nepal train teachers for a single subject specialization at the secondary level, the B.Ed. BEE stands out as an integrated degree preparing educators to teach across the entire foundational spectrum, from Early Childhood Development (ECD) through Grade 8.
The program moves beyond conventional teacher training by combining pedagogical content knowledge with child development expertise and culturally responsive practice. It follows a progressive, practice-based model, in which students begin classroom observation and child study from their first year, advancing through On-the-Job Training and micro-teaching, before culminating in extended internships during their third and fourth years that involve full classroom responsibility, lesson planning, and assessment.
The program allows students to choose between two specialization tracks: ECD (ages 3–8) or Basic Education (Grades 4–8), alongside minor/elective options in Teachers' Professional Development, Mathematics, TESOL, or Indigenous Studies. It also integrates AI and Digital Pedagogy, inclusive and anti-bias education, and community-based service-learning initiatives such as literacy campaigns and parental awareness programs.
By the end of the program, graduates are expected to demonstrate reflective and research-informed teaching practice, strong digital literacy, and the ability to serve diverse urban, rural, and inclusive classroom settings across Nepal.
