Course Description:
The four-year, full-time undergraduate Tribhuvan University (TU) Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) program seeks to foster students' artistic qualities and creative potential. During this time, students must finish all of the requisite credits and meet all academic criteria. Students will need four years to finish this course in total.
The goal of the course is to develop the academic skills and creative zeal of the young students. The course has a multitude of specialties such as dancing, acting, painting, creative writing, photography, visual effects, animation, sculpture, and many areas of arts. L
The program offers specialized courses in Classical Tabla, Vocal/Instrumental Music, Classical Dance, Painting, Traditional Nepali Painting, Sculpture, Traditional Nepali Sculpture, and Graphic Communications. In order to prepare them for a variety of jobs in the arts, students acquire both fundamental and advanced skills in performing, sound technology, stage presence, and visual arts.
Lalit Kala Campus is the first and foremost college of Nepal established in 1894 for fine arts, affiliated with Tribhuvan University (TU).

Specialization of BFA:
BFA in Sculpture
- Beginning with basic clay modeling of basic human features like eyes, noses, and ears, the BFA (Sculpture) course progresses to studies of the human head. Along with learning composition, the student is exposed to a variety of other mediums as they advance, such as full-life studies and the carving of the human head in stone and wood. Graduates with a BFA in sculpture can work as curators, art critics, exhibition designers, industrial designers, museum technicians and conservators, interior designers, and more.
BFA in Classical Vocal/Instrumental (Music)
- The foundations of classical and folk music are covered in the BFA in Classical Vocal/Instrumental (Music) program. The students learn about the practical aspects of music technology and stage performance in the ensuing years.
BFA in Classical Dance (Music)
- BFA in classical dance (Music) has various components based on earlier classical practices. It started with early folk dance and classical music rehearsals. It is achieved by having solid knowledge and proficiency in traditional dances like as Kathak or Bharatnatyam. The Charya and folk dances are practiced vigorously and introduced gradually.
BFA in Graphic Communications
- Typography and hands-on lessons on managing space in print design, including press ads and packaging designs, are covered in the first few courses of the course. The student will gradually receive in-depth instruction on image development, including corporate identity, photography, and illustration. In the meantime, the student will also know how to use digital tools to produce print-ready designs.
BFA in Classical Tabala
- Beginning with the fundamentals, such as the classical tabala, and progressing to folk rhythmic practices, the BFA in Classical Tabala (Music) offers an intriguing blend. Students are also expected to acquire more sophisticated knowledge and abilities in stage performance and sound technology in later years.
BFA in Painting
- The four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Painting program aims to build students' fundamental and advanced abilities. Beginning with simple geometric items, students move on to more intricate still life compositions, mannequins, and life studies that range from head sketches to full-body depictions. As students go to senior classes, they learn new artistic techniques like printmaking and acquire hands-on experience with acrylics, watercolors, and oil paints.
BFA in Traditional Nepali Painting
- Under BFA Painting, there is a course called BFA in Traditional Nepali Painting. For individuals who decide to pursue traditional painting, the first year will teach the fundamentals of sketching traditional paintings, followed by an introduction to Hindu and Buddhist deities.
BFA in Traditional Nepali Sculpture
- In addition to learning the fundamentals of drawing, students studying classical sculpting receive instruction in relief and circular compositions. Round carvings and other conventional sculpture-like reliefs on the story's motifs and patterns were also progressively added. The learner will have mastered the ability to independently sculpt or create whole sculptures of deities in the upcoming years using traditional methods.

Eligibility
The eligibility criteria for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture is that the applicants should have successfully passed high school in any discipline and passed the entrance exam for admission.

Program Format:
1. Foundation: BFA First Year
2. Specialization: BFA Second, Third, and Fourth Years
In the first year, students pursuing a BFA in Painting, a BFA in Sculpture, or a BFA in Graphic Communication are all taught the same course; specialization only begins in the second year. The same foundational subject is taught to students enrolling in BFA Classical Vocal/Instrument (Music), BFA in Classical Tabala (Music), and BFA in Classical Dance (Music) in the first year, with specialization beginning in the second.
