Tribhuvan University cancels Bachelor's third year level exams, schools to reopen after 2 weeks
All exams of the Bachelor's third year level for students of Tribhuvan University (TU) have been postponed indefinitely.
A board meeting of the Office of Controller of Examinations (OCE) held on Wednesday decided to postpone the exams following Tuesday's magnitude 7.3 aftershock.
OCE Deputy Controller Narayan Belbase told Republica that the office would issue the fresh exams schedule 15 days before the exams. Over 150,000 students are currently enrolled at BA third-year level at TU constituent and affiliated colleges across the country. The massive earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25 has caused severe damage at the TU central office and at several constituent and affiliated colleges.
Tuesday's tremor also forced the government to withdraw its earlier decision to reopen schools from Friday.Minister for Education Chitra Lekha Yadav was conducting a meeting at her office with ministry officials Tuesday afternoon on preparations for reopening the schools when the quake rattled the country.
"Government needs to find out the additional number of damaged schools following yet another strong tremor," stated MoE Spokesperson Hari Lamasal in a press statement. Dolaka, Khotang and Solukhumbu are the districts most affected by the last quake though previously they were the least affected.
The ministry has further stated that the district-based Disaster Management Committees would be taking further decisions on the date for opening the schools.
"The district offices will assess the damage and decide whether or not to resume classes in two weeks," Lamsal said in his statement.
As many as a million students are said to be affected by the earthquake following the destruction at over 5,000 schools.
