Act for education sector reforms

Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Kishore Thapa has revealed that the Education Act is under amendment in order to reform the education sector of Nepal.

Speaking at an interaction on 'Protection and Promotion of languages for social harmony' organized by the National Federation of UNESCO associations and Russian Culture Centre in the capital on Tuesday, Secretary Thapa said English language has put Nepali mother tongues under shadow, and parents and teachers have also been found to giving more emphasis to English than to mother tongue.

Reader Damber Bir Thapa said lack of protection and promotion is leading many languages in Nepal towards extinction. Culture expert Rajya Shree Shrestha also stressed on the need of promoting Nepali languages.

On the occasion, Secretary Thapa was honoured for his contribution to the education sector.
