The KIST Medical College (KISTMC) Hospital and the Academic Block are located in Imadol, a place according to some historians said to have been visited by Emperor Ashoka in antiquity and even today his influence is manifested by the Ashoka stupas. The site has all the conveniences yet is away from the hustle and bustle. The college is at a distance of around 3 km. from the historic Patan Durbar square with its majestic architecture and around 6 km. from the Tribhuvan International Airport – the only international airport of the country.
The college actively encourages and supports community-based learning (CBL). CBL is being actively promoted through community visits, postings to peripheral health institutions, long stays in rural communities and family visits. The institution actively promotes the development of a community orientation among the graduating doctors. The college plans to start satellite or outreach clinics to improve healthcare delivery in the periphery and for training of medical, nursing and other categories of students. A satellite hospital is functioning in Dolakha district. The college has worked out a medical insurance scheme, Sanjeevani for the residents of Imadol VDC and neighboring VDCs. The residents can avail of basic medical facilities in the hospital on payment of a nominal premium each year.
