Dilemma on further studies after +2
As soon as our exams are over, we feel relaxed as well as overjoyed. We feel as if an enormous weight has been removed from our head. But at the same time, a sort of pressure builds up within us because we are confronted with the dilemma of taking a decisive step that would determine our career. We need to consider many factors before we choose a career path.
Many students find the task of choosing a subject after passing high school quite daunting. They face many obstacles during this time.
Sometimes their choice is influenced by friends and they pick subjects in random just to go with the flow without giving much thought to long-term consequences. When we see our friends joining preparation classes, we ask ourselves, “What is holding us back?” This feeling forces us to make quick decisions, which may or may not be in our favour.
Sometimes we enrol into programs our parents want us to. In such cases most parents wish to see their children following the same career path they did.
The parents, of course, want their children to have a secure future, but it should not be at the cost of the children’s interests. Most parents forget that it’s the children who have to live with the decision, and if they are not satisfied with the decision taken by their parents, it will make them unhappy the rest of their lives.
After finalizing the course of study, the problem that arises concerns the choice of institution? The task seems even more difficult; the institution we like may not have the course and the one where it is available may not be the college of our liking.
Talking about myself, I am a science student with some interest in management. No wonder, I am still unsure about which course I’ll finally opt for. It’s very hard to make decisions that are ultimately going to affect your future career.
They say the most important part of our student life is the high school. But it’s after passing the high school that we have to confront a crucial situation that directly concerns our future. Many of us are now facing these very problems. Some of us might have already taken our decision but some are still pondering over options.
In the context of Nepal, those students who are taking science just randomly take a decision of studying MBBS/Engineering and take an entrance preparation class.
But will all these students become doctors or engineers in future? As I’ve already mentioned above, most of the students take these decision due to peer or parent’s pressure.
This is a common problem haunting all +2 graduates. Even if we are prepared for something, we still get pressured by various factors. If we fail to tackle these pressures deftly, we may not be able to choose a correct path for ourselves.
